But Bank of England governor Mervyn King opposes changing targets. And
using core inflation could be misleading, making inflation appear too
tame when it is really galloping ahead, said Willem Buiter of the London
School of Economics and a former member of the Bank of England's
Monetary Policy Committee.
"Core inflation is of no intrinsic interest, unless you happen to be
someone who doesn't eat, or drive a car, or use air conditioning," he
said.
